Robin Ward

The Boys has been released, and there’s obviously a bunch of characters taken from the comics we have to see together. First in line is Robin Ward, portrayed by Jess Salgueiro, an unfortunate girl who in the first episode The Name of the Game makes the grave mistake of stepping down the sidewalk moments before a hasty A-Train comes running by, reducing her to a bloody pulp. In the comics, her destiny is pretty much the same, but with a few differences: let’s take a look.

We don’t know much about Robin Ward: she was a regular girl who lived in Glasgow, Scotland, but nothing’s been revealed about her job, her family or her background. All we know about her started the day she met Hughie Campbell, a young man she became interested in, and who she started dating. A week after their first date, Robin already knew she loved the lad: he was funny, he was adorable, he was the one for her. Robin knew, but of course, she didn’t want to scare him away, so she just avoided to say the “L” word for the time being. This didn’t prevent them to spend a great time together, of course, and everything was going better by the day… until that fateful date at a fair, when everything was taken from them in a blink of an eye.

Hughie had taken Robin to a fair, and they were having a great time together as usual. Hughie was blabbing about pink gay aliens hidden by the government, one of his usual conspiracy theories that Robin found funny and entertaining. While commenting on Hughie’s vocabulary, Robin let it slip, and she said she loved him, even if it was only a month they had been seeing each other. Hughie wasn’t scared at all, quite the opposite: they shared their first kiss, the best kiss they had ever had… and for Robin, also the last one in her life. While the lovely couple was holding hands, a horned supe was sent flying in their direction, hit Robin and smashed her on a brick wall, leaving only a red stain in her place, and her arms in Hughie’s hands. The superhero A-Train had been battling the guy, punching him at Mach-5 without a second thought on possible presence of civilians. If Robin’s death wasn’t enough, Vought-American tried to cover the incident up, while A-Train laughed about it with his teammates in The Seven: it’s no surprise that Hughie chose to join The Boys to make the speedster pay.

Robin Ward is a perfectly, adorably normal girl, a young woman who tries to make a living and to find the right guy. Romantic and sweet, she’s the girl next door anyone would like to meet, and the boy next door is exactly what she asks from life.
